We actively fund recreation programs that engage local youth, teens, and families alike. These programs educate people about the Catskill Mountains, the forests, and the watershed. We are proud to have sponsored initiatives such as WAJ Ski Tuesday, the enhancements at CD Lane Park, CD Lane Park Sandcastle Contest, the Windham World Cup Bike Festival and the Windham Path. Additional local recreational funding included: Little League scoreboard, Yankee Stadium field trips, playground and sports Equipment for WAJ tennis courts upkeep, and uniforms for mountain bike and soccer teams
Town of Windham Annual Sandcastle Sculpture Contest
WINDHAM, NY, June 5, 2025 – In celebration of the Fourth of July holiday weekend, the Town of Windham and Windham Foundation will host the fifth annual Stars & Stripes Sandcastle and Sculpture Contest at CD Lane Park Route 56 in Maplecrest, NY on Friday, July 4 from 11:00 am – 12:45 pm. Check-in begins at 10:45.
The Sandcastle and Sculpture Competition has become an annual tradition to welcome in the start of summer activities held at the park. Children of all ages can participate in this wonderful family-friendly event.
“This event is all about families coming out to have fun,” said Windham Town Supervisor Thomas Hoyt.
Using tools of the trade— sand and water—plus whatever can be found in nature to decorate their creation, children of all ages will have a chance to win prizes for the most creative or skillfully crafted sand structure. Extra points will be given for patriotic designs.
Participants are encouraged to bring beach spades, shovels, and pails to facilitate their design. Beach chairs, blankets, towels, sun hats, sun block and bathing suits are also recommended. As a reminder, all children must be accompanied by an adult.
To top the day off, ice cream will be served, compliments of Hickory Hill Market. After the competition, plan to spend the day by enjoying all CD Lane Park has to offer: BBQ grills, children’s playground, softball field, beach volleyball, frisbee golf, basketball courts, a beach, fishing, paddle boats and canoes, walking and hiking trails. CD Lane Fall Fest Success
Windham Foundation, in cooperation with the Town of Windham and the Windham Chamber of Commerce, sponsored the CD Lane Fall Fest on Saturday, October 10, 2020.
“Nature out-performed herself and we couldn’t have been happier,” said Phyllis Parrish, Windham Foundation Board member. “Most of all, the Fall Fest was a family day where families spent time together outdoors, having fun.”
The Fall Fest was a great success and attracted families of all ages and sizes. People brought picnic lunches, played basketball, hiked the newly restored footpaths, and soaked up fresh air and sunshine while listening to “Steel” and “Four 26.” Some attendees noted they had been watching the new developments to CD Lane Park over the summer. “It’s truly amazing what’s been done to preserve the park,” noted one enthusiast who frequently jogs to CD Lane Park.
We are grateful for everyone who donated to make this day possible! “It’s just the beginning,” said Peter Shapiro, who helped spearhead the CD Lane enhancement project. “While more donations will be needed to fund all of the initiatives, it was a remarkable day for our town and community.”
WAJ Ski Tuesday
Windham Foundation has supported the WAJ Ski Tuesday Program. We look forward to seeing these young skiers and riders develop their skills and foster a desire to continue the joy of being on snow!

Windham Little League
The Windham Foundation provided funds for the Little League sign. Grants were also provided for children and their parents for trips to Cooperstown and NY Yankee games.
